Charter Street Cemetery was earlier known as "Ye Burying Point" (c. 1700) because before the land below it to the south was filled, the cemetery rested on a point of land with the South River flowing beneath. Another former name for the Charter Street Cemetery was "Ye Burying Place" (c. 1780). | Burying Point Cemetery

| Cemetery-Center Church on the Green Churchyard New Haven, New Haven CT -- Now a National Historic Landmark, Center Church on the Green is situated right on the New Haven Green. It is the oldest church in New Haven, founded in 1638, and was previously known as First Congregational Church. The present building dates from 1814 and was built over part of the burying ground. Some gravestones remain in the basement crypt, and may be visited from 11 am to 1 pm Thursdays and Saturdays for tours. Many people were buried on the green; in 1821 almost all of the remaining outside monuments were moved to Grove Street Cemetery (at Grove Street many of those tombstones are around the inside wall in alphabetical order.) | Center Church on the Green Churchyard | |

| Cemetery-First First Cemetery, Marlboro, Windham VT -- Although a few burials had been made on private farms and near the corner of the first Meetinghouse in the early 1770's [which would later become Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery], the first officially recognized cemetery was established in 1776, shortly after the citizens of New Marlborough had met as "freemen" to select a delegate to join with the Provincial Congress "to transact important affairs relative to the alarming situation that the Province was reduced to through cruel and unjust and oppressive acts of the British Parliament..."
One of the first burials, in 1777, was that of the young wife of Captain Jonathan Warren, who had joined the "rebellion" known as the Revolutionary War. The location would later be called The First Cemetery.
Perilous times and the confusion of war on their home soil caused laps in record keeping and the First Cemetery fell into disrepair, hidden in the woods. It was defunct by 1782. | First Cemetery

| Cemetery-Kings Chapel Burying Grounds Boston, Suffolk MA -- Founded in 1630 at the time of the settlement of Boston, King's Chapel is Boston Proper's oldest burying place. Like the majority of Boston's burying grounds, it has always been under municipal control, not affiliated with any church. The site is said to be part of Isaac Johnson's estate, an esteemed early settler. In 1668 Royal Governor Andros seized a portion of this property to construct the town's first Anglican church, King's Chapel, which was built in 1688. | Kings Chapel Burying Ground | |
